The LS3 has long been the go-to engine of choice for hot rodders, resto-mod builders, and late-model performance car owners for years. It was the final chapter of the “mainstream” performance-focused LS-series engines from GM, and arguably, the best. Although it has long since left the options list on production cars, that’s not stopping third-party outfits like Ohio Speed Shops from putting their own spin on them.
Based in the Heartland, Ohio Speed Shops takes an already formative engine, to the next level of performance with multiple mechanical upgrades like ported heads, more aggressive camshafts, and higher-flowing intake manifolds and throttle bodies. Their latest, is this sleek-looking, but reliable crate engine from OSS. Available in various horsepower levels, ranging from 465-605hp. There’s also an iron block 6-liter version with 450hp, on the entry-level side of things.
