When it comes to the C7 Corvette, there is no better way than to send the car off with the ZR1. Dubbed the “king of the Hill” way back in the old C4 days, the C7 ZR1 took the car to the absolute limits of what was possible in that particular chassis. With 755hp on tap, in its stock format, there would need to be other aspects of the car that would have to be upgraded, to not only make more power, but to dial it in to be perfectly balanced.
But that’s not the car we’re talking about today. What we’re looking at on this page, is a Z06, the not-as-radical, but still supercharged version of the C7, that left the factory with 650hp. Though not as powerful as the ZR1, it was a far-better balanced machine that offered more than enough punch for the street, while being able to deliver the amount of power necessary to go toe-to-toe with some of the baddest machines that Europe had to offer at the time.
However, there’s always way to improve upon a masterpiece, and that’s exactly what the owner of this example has done. Kept under the watchful eye of Bryan L., he elected to hire Erik Bentley of Florida High Performance to take his Vette to the next level.
With a great foundation already in place from General Motors, Erik was able to take the car to surpass the level of a ZR1 with some great hardware from some of the best in the industry. But to make things interesting, and to make the experience more enjoyable for the car’s owner, Erik worked with Bryan to install the camshaft himself. It’s certainly unusual to see a a customer roll his sleeves up and put work in while the car is at a shop, but Bryan wanted to say he turned wrenches on his own car.
