Can you handle 800 horsepower? That’s the question you’ll ask yourself when you enter to win the 2016 Corvette Dream Giveaway, starring the first-ever Lingenfelter Signature Edition Corvette Z06 convertible.
GM EFI took some time out with Lingenfelter Performance Engineering to learn how its Corvette speed experts convert the stock, 650hp 2016 Z06 into a weapon of mass propulsion.
First up, the factory LT4 cylinder heads are removed and shuttled over to a CNC machine for porting and polishing. The original 2.13-/1.59-inch diameter intake and exhaust valves receive a three-angle valve job and blending of the valve seats. Lingenfelter dual valve springs, titanium retainers, and 10-degree locks are installed.
Next up comes a Lingenfelter GT35 LT4 hydraulic-roller camshaft, a marked performance improvement over Chevrolet’s stock bumpstick in that it deletes the AFM and variable cam timing while orchestrating the valvetrain to the tune of 210-/237-degrees duration and 0.605-/0.617-inches of lift on a 116.5-degree LSA.
The power upgrade doesn’t stop there. Lingenfelter’s trained techs extract the factory 1.74-liter Eaton R1740 supercharger and replace it with a 2.3-liter E-Force 2.3 Liter TVS blower designed specifically for the LT4 by Edelbrock. The larger unit is not prone to the heat soak of the factory unit and allows for higher maximum boost (13 psi vs. 9.4 psi).
To complete the Stage 3 package, which comes standard on all Lingenfelter Signature Edition Z06s, a ported throttle body and long-tube headers are added to the recipe. Then, custom tuning reprograms the stock ECM for its new capabilities.
Setting the Lingenfelter Signature Edition Z06 apart from its 650hp siblings from Chevrolet’s Bowling Green birthing center, specific graphics and callouts are applied to the exterior and interior. Its look is so attention-getting that Lingenfelter has been taking this Signature Edition Z06 to major events all summer long and receiving rave compliments from journalists and Corvette fans alike.
One lucky winner will take home this new Lingenfelter Signature Edition Z06 when they help out charities with a donation of as little as $3 by entering the 2016 Corvette Dream Giveaway. (The winner will also take home a matching, ultra-rare L78 1965 Corvette Sting Ray convertible.)
