We sort of find it hard to believe that it’s already been over five years since the last Pontiac musclecar rolled off of a GM assembly line. While some may argue that it was the Firebird in 2002 or the GTO in 2006, because they were both coupes, the G8 GXP has definitely earned the right to wear the crown.
Going out in blaze of glory with a 415 hp/ 415 lb-ft. LS3, a 6-speed transmission, RWD, and a limited run of just 1,829 units, it’s collectibility is already assured. However, rarity hasn’t stopped quite a few GXP owners from making their cars even faster, with aftermarket support remaining strong for the car.
Back in 2009 when the car was released for it’s lone model year, the performance was already impressive. Capable of 13.0-second quarter-mile times, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, a capable of pulling a 0.90g skidpad, and a top speed electronically limited to 155 mph, the car was quite fast for its time and would still hang with the hottest ponycars of today.

We just ran across this throwback Motorweek video featuring the G8 GXP, who gave it rave reviews. It made us slightly nostalgic for not only the G8 itself, but the Pontiac brand as a whole.
The Arrowhead Division sold plenty of hard-hitting performance cars over its history, and with cars like the G8 GXP acting as a proper final chapter to Pontiac performance, we know the brand didn’t die in vain. If you own one of these cars, enjoy your piece of history!
