Hemmings just dropped the third installment of Killer Mike’s Grand National build. In the last installment we saw the LT4 being dropped between the frame rails, but now we see how a few of the details fall into place. Fabbing up the engine mounts, getting the oil sump installed, and we get another look at the Spoolfool inner fenders the we covered a few months back.
In this episode, Hemmings handles the entire fuel system, fab work, radiator, and more.
Most of the components that went into the Buick, had to be fabricated, including the oil sump housing that was mounted into the firewall, and the radiator hold down. The latter of which, has a unique Hemming “H” nabbed into it — it’ s nice touch.
The frame had to be notched slightly, to clear the oil pan drain plug, and custom engine mounts were fabricated as well.
One of the things that didn’t need fabricated, were the Spoolfool Productions inner fenders. These are designed to bolt into all ’81-87 Buick Regals, including Grand Nationals. Mike Barnard, owner and founder of Spoolfool Productions, makes a very brief cameo appearance with his inner fenders, and helped the guys at Hemmings install them into the car. They lend a cleaner, more modern look over the OEM examples, and are designed more in-line for those cars that have been V8-swapped, like Killer Mike’s car.
There’s still a lot of work that needs to be done on this boosted Buick, and we look towards the next installment with great anticipation!
