The Cadillac V-Series brand has become a staple in the modern performance car world, having its roots created by the very first CTS-V, dating back to 2004. If you’re paying attention to the calendar, that means it’s been at the forefront of Cadillac, and General Motors, performance for nearly 20 years.
In these two decades, we’ve received a V-Series version of the STS, XLR, ATS, CT4, CT5, three generations of CTS, and now, finally, an Escalade. Some say that it was long overdue, including your author. In my opinion, a V-Series Escalade could have made sense as early as 2007, when the European automakers that Cadillac was competing with, started cranking out performance SUVs.
I suppose the old adage, “better late than never,” can be applied here.
In a revisit video from Jay Leno’s Garage, we get a closer look at the $150,000 SUV from Jay himself, as well as a Brandon Vivian, Executive Chief Engineer at Cadillac. We get a closer look under the hood of the latest V-Series, all 682hp derived form its LT4 supercharged powerplant.
We also take a dive into some of the technical features, latest tech, and hear that burbly exhaust. Even the sound this thing creates, is menacing. Cadillac has accomplished a lot with this truck, to the point where most find the six-figure sticker well worth it, to the point where they’re paying nearly $50k OVER the sticker price, currently, just to park one of these things in their garage.
