The day Pontiac announced it was no longer going to be making the Firebird was an incredibly sad day for a lot of people in the car community. Likewise, the day that Chevy debuted the fifth-generation Camaro was an exciting one but for Pontiac fans the hype was short-lived. A month after production began on the 2010 Camaro, Pontiac closed its doors and the book all together for the Trans Am. For families like the Warmack’s, who grew up idealizing Pontiac’s ultimate contribution to the muscle car segment, this was not easily swallowed.
When renderings of the new Camaro concept surfaced without a Pontiac version in 2006, graphic designer Kevin Morgan set out to give Trans Am fans something to look forward to and in 2009, he teamed up with the Warmack’s to make the dream a reality. That original design was only the start for the Warmacks and Trans Am Worldwide. Since then they have built several models, each a little bit better than the next.
While reflecting on the beginnings of their family obsession and reviewing family photos they came across some pictures of the car that really started it all, a 1978 Gold Trans Am the Warmack Brother’s father had when they were young. In honor of the memory of his father, Tod Warmack set out to build a modern day version of that Gold Super Duty Trans Am with his son.
Heart warming family stuff aside, the car is completely awesome. The attention to detail on this build is really incredible and goes above and beyond all of the other Trans Am Worldwide builds. At the heart of the beast is a 455 cubic-inch engine that utilizes a Magnuson 2650 Supercharger. This is the first time this supercharger has been used on a large displacement engine but it seems to be a good match as the car is able to put 944-horsepower and 1108 lbs-ft of torque.
It is unclear how many will be made or when the modern Gold Super Duty Trans Am will be available but we hope to see more of it in the near future. More information can be found in this video documenting the build and its inspiration.
