We Pick another Top Five 6th-Gen Camaros from SEMA 2016
Picking up where we left off from yesterday, we’ve decided to bring you more awesome 6th Generation Camaros, as plenty more had reveled themselves as we made our way through the halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center, for Day Two of SEMA 2016. Everything from preproduction test cars, to subtle sleepers, to aggressive wide body creations, waited for us inside.
Starting off the list, in semi particular order (we really like the first one and what it accomplished) we start with:
1. 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1
The production 2017 ZL1 will come with the Z06’s supercharged LT4, and is expected to produce at least 650 horsepower, and 650 lb-ft. of torque. Transmission options will be a 6-speed manual with Active Rev-Matching, or an all new 10-speed automatic.
It will feature a dual mode exhaust with quad tips to expel spent fuel. Helping put power to the ground will be an Electronic Limited-Slip Differential (eLSD) on coupe models.
Magnetic Ride Control combined with Performance Traction Management, will help give the ’17 ZL1 an edge not only over the older model, but also many other cars costing considerably more. There will be a Driver Mode Selector that will help the operator dial in the amount of performance need from the electronics. Heat will be dissipated through eleven different exchangers to help keep the powertrain at optimum temperature. Slowing everything down will be a Brembo 6-piston front, and 4-piston rear brakes.
Exterior changes include a front fascia with larger cooling ducts, wider front fenders, and ZL1 specific rocker moldings and rear diffuser. There will also be a ZL1 distinct hood with carbon-fiber air extractor, and a stanchion rear spoiler. Putting the power to the pavement will be Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires measuring 285/30R20 for the front, and 305/30R20 for the rear. These will be wrapped around 20-inch forged aluminum wheels. Rounding out the ZL1 specific exterior changes will be the now famous Chevrolet “Flowtie” front emblem. If you haven’t heard of it, we recommend doing a little research, it’s pretty cool what it does and how it came into being.
Moving to the interior reveals standard RECARO performance seats, a short throw shifter, suede wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel and shift knob, and red or black safety belts. A Performance Data Recorder will be available as well.
The car pictured here is interesting because it is fresh off a 7:29.60 minute blitz of the Green Hell, more officially known as the Nurburgring. The 2017’s time is almost 12-seconds faster than the 5th-Gen ZL1! In fact this one is so fresh off the ‘Ring, that it still wears the dirt and bug splatter fron the run. There is even a place on the driver’s side, below the headlight, that seems to have contacted something with enough force to scuff the clear coat. We like to think of it as war paint!
2. Anderson Composites 6th Gen Camaro
Anderson Composites utilized a host of carbon fiber pieces, including their Type-CP hood, Type-ST rear spoiler and wicker bill, Type-AZ rear valance, Type-AZ chin spoiler, and Type-AZ rocker panels to give their 6th-Gen a very aggressive look. The interior has a 6-point RPM roll bar surrounding Sparco Pro2000 seats, and Sparco racing harnesses.
The wheels are CCW Concave CVM10s measuring 19×10 in front and 19×12 in rear. These are fitted to Continental Extreme DW tires in 275/30/19 in front and 305/30/19 in the rear. Suspension duties are handled by JRi Shocks, Detroit Speed coil overs, and Eibach springs. Slowing down the carbon clad Camaro are Wilwood Aerolight brakes, consisting of 15-inch rotors, clamped by 6-piston calipers in front and 4 pistons in the rear. Motivating the 6th Gen is the factory LT1 enhanced by an Injen intake, a Corsa exhaust, with ECU calibration handled by a SCT Live Wire tuner. Transmission throws are shortened by a Hurst shift kit.
3. 2017 Yenko/SC Camaro
Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) has put together a complete turn key car that is much more than the sum of its parts. Starting with a 2017 Camaro SS, they drop in a Custom built aluminum 416 C.I.D. LT1 with a forged 4340 steel crankshaft, H-beam rods and forged aluminum pistons. Topping the block are CNC-ported and polished LT1 cylinder heads, fueled by a LT4 fuel system and injectors. Forcing oxygen into the forged 416 is a Whipple 2.9L Twin Screw supercharger. Getting everthing to work together is a custom performance tune, that makes the combination produce 800HP. The rolling stock is changed to 5-spoke wheels with gunmetal finish spokes, machined lip, and sYc center caps. These are surrounded by Goodyear Eagle F1 tires, 285/35ZR20 in the front, and 305/35ZR20 in the rear.
Exterior styling is enhanced by a color matched carbon fiber hood with scoop and grill. Graphic packages consisting of a Yenko sYc hood stripe, and Yenko S/C side stripes are available in different colors. Three Yenko Crest badges, as well as 800HP hood cowl and decklid badges are applied as well. The rear spoiler is given a stealthy flat black appearance as well.
Interior upgrades consist of Yenko Supercharged power badges, and key fobs with vehicle build number. The seats and floor mats are treated to embroidery work. Rounding out the standard features are Yenko/SC door sill plates. Options for the interior include a leather trim package for the front and rear seats which is available in 7 colors that compliment all available body colors. Hounds tooth cloth seat inserts with sYc embroidered headrest logos are also available.
This car comes with a 3 year/36,000 mile powertrain, and non-powertrain component, limited warranty
4. QTP Black Pearl
Ok so they don’t call it the Black Pearl, we just thought it was fitting considering it’s super shiny black exterior. Complementing the beautiful paint is a carbon fiber front splitter, side skirts, hood vents, and rear diffuser. Black Z/28 wheels sit inside Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires in 285/30/20 on the front, and 305/30/20 on the rear. Stopping the dark 6th-Gen are Wilwood drilled and slotted brakes.
Under the hood an aftermarket cold air intake helps the LT1 inhale better, while a QTP Screamer exhaust helps with evacuating spent fuel. This combination is backed by a 6-speed manual transmission.
5. Magnuson Superchargers 6th Gen
Don’t let looks deceive you, what the Magnuson 6th-Gen may not show in exterior flash, it more than makes up for with power and speed. The only thing noticeably different cosmetically are a set of HRE wheels. Mechanically is where this Camaro makes a stand. Magnuson bolted one of their TVS2300 superchargers on to a factory LT1, which combined with a cat-back exhaust and some computer tuning, produced 550 horsepower at the wheels. This setup allowed this car to run 10.80s in the quarter mile. Proof that looks can be severely deceiving!
Bonus Pick: Alpha 6 Designs Wide Body Camaro
Maybe it’s the semi flat gray finish that makes the fender flares look even wider than they already are? Either way, Alpha 6 Designs’ 6th-Gen looks good! An aggressive front splitter and side skirts combine with a rear diffuser and taller rear spoiler, to compliment the wide fenders to give this car an aggressively mean look. Filling the extended wheel wells are Vossen wheels with Pirelli tires measuring 285/30/21 in front, and 355/25/21 in the rear. Stopping the Gray Ghost (our unofficial name) are Brembo brakes with drilled and slotted rotors.
To back up the aggressive exterior, a SLP supercharger combined with a RotoFab intake, and a MBRP exhaust were utilized to bump power and give this 6th-Gen more bite.
The 6th-Gen Camaro is proving to be a good platform for modification, as is evident by the amount of quality 6th-Gens showcased at SEMA 2016. The examples presented are only going to get better as aftermarket companies have more time to develop parts for them. With that in mind, we can’t wait for SEMA 2017!
At just 5-years old, it was an ’85 IROC-Z Camaro that ignited the fuel that sparked the life-long passion of GM hardware for Michael. Being a huge fan of late-model muscle in general, the LS-powered 4th-generation Firebirds truly capture Michael’s heart.
