Players Challenge Collection Of Camaros Up For Sale In Canada

The annual Player’s Challenge race series, hosted by General Motors Canada, was an epic series that put some of the best Canadian racers up against each other in identically built Camaro’s and Trans Ams. The series ran from 1986 to 1992 and was held at many renowned tracks including Mosport, Cayuga and the Molson Indy street course.

Building between 80 to 100 specifically built Camaro’s each year, GM ultimately supplied only 388 Chevrolet Camaro’s and 109 Pontiac Trans Am’s in all for the Player’s Challenge. All of the cars included the 1LE package, effectively setting the cars up for road racing with a stiffer suspension, stronger brakes, thicker anti-roll bars, HD wheel bearings, an aluminum drive shaft, and a baffled dual pickup fuel tank.

The Player’s Choice-equipped Trans Ams and Camaros were designated with a R7U RPO code and were not on the order sheet making this option only available for racers. Although finding one of these may seem like finding a needle in a haystack, it may not be as hard as you think if you act quickly as someone in Toronto, Canada claims to have 14 of them and has posted one of them for sale on AutoTrader.ca.

The 1991 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE Player’s Choice in the listing seems to be kept in good condition and has very few miles on the clock, though one could expect that those miles are more than likely all very hard ones. The seller, a small dealer local to the Toronto area that specializes in rare and unique collector cars, claims that this particular car was formally owned by Doug Beattie. While the asking price may seem a bit high for a 3rd generation F-body, considering this cars history and that it is likely one of less than 100 made that year, $30,000 is not that much of a stretch.
