More Information Is Leaked About the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing

CTS-V enthusiasts took a hit when Cadillac announced the decision had been made to stop making them. While it may have seemed like Cadillac could be backing out of the high-performance sedan market, that couldnā€™t be further from the truth. The automaker simply hadnā€™t perfected the unintended replacement line for the CTS-V. However, it appears that Cadillac is both giving high-performance luxury car buyers two V-series models to look forward to and bringing back an infamous name.

The CT4-V and CT5-V models have thus far fallen short in comparison to the CTS-V but in mid 2021 Cadillac is said to be adding the Blackwing moniker to the pair. Each of the new Blackwing models will get its own high-performance engine. The most impressive is the CT5-V with its 640-horsepower and 630 lbs-ft of torque supercharged 6.2L V8 engine. Both engines will be paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission or an optional 6-speed manual transmission and a sport-tuned suspension.

While alloy wheels will most likely be standard equipment for both the CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing models, according to Cadillac Society, both will be available with forged magnesium wheels. These wheels are the first of their kind to be offered by Cadillac and were inspired by the Cadillac DPi-V.R race car. The new wheel option not only complements the Blackwingsā€™ sporty looks but also reduces unsprung weight. In theory this should increase performance and handling while affecting drivability as minimally as possible.

The 2022 CT4-V and CT5-V are intended to be over-competitors to cars that have up until this point dominated the high-performance luxury car market. However, cars like the BMW M3 and the AMG E 63 S could have their work cut out for them with what may just be the best high performance Cadillac models ever made.
