Randy Johnsonās 2002 Corvette Z06 has made its rounds (literally) at a few Ultimate Street CarĀ (USCA) events. As the owner of D&Z Customs, the car has some pretty big shoes to fill when it comes to being extreme. This LS7 Powered DZ06 does not disappoint!
D&Z Customs has produced some award-winning classic Chevys, but for Randyās personal car, he went late-model instead. This was a smart and budget-friendly move; instead of pouring money into a classic to make it perform like a C5, he just purchasedĀ a C5 and started from there.
Being the owner of a customization shop, this C5 Z06 wasnāt going to just walk away stock,Ā surely not. This C5Z was the subject of Randyās artistic vision, and the end product was executed perfectly. Although Randy was the visionary, he also had his hand in every detail of the project.Ā Looking at it now, you wouldnāt imagine that Randy found it in the condition he did. The car was originally a shell, with no engine, brakes, or seats. It was a vehicle recovered from a theft and sold to Randy for a bargain. What went into it next was far from an ordinary restoration.
What caught our attention first about this C5 Z06 was not the crazy appearance (but weāll get to that), itās whatās underneath that has us drooling. Hidden under the crazy exterior is a 630 horsepower Lingenfelter LS7, backed by a Bowler-prepped TR6060 transmission with a Centerforce twin-disc DYAD clutch. The LS7 is built with a Callies crankshaft, Molnar connecting rods, and JE pistons. It also has a custom Lingenfelter GT-19 cam, trunnion upgraded rockers, and an oil system with anĀ Aviaid baffle equipped oil pan and Peterson Fluid Systems 14 quart capacity oil tank.
The body is outfitted with an extreme carbon fiber hood, rocker panels, and rear diffuser by Carbon Creations. Itās front bumper cover and rear bumper cover are from Extreme Dimensions. Lewis 5 Motorsports supplied the widened front fenders and quarter panels.
This custom creation rides on RideTech suspension upgrades, which includes RideTech adjustable coil-overs, delrin bushings and splined swaybars. Wilwood brakes supply the stopping power, and Nitto NT05 tires wrapped around 18×11/19×12 Forgeline one-piece forged Transparent CopperĀ AR1 wheels make it roll! The overall execution of Randy’s Vette makes the aging C5 look like it just rolled off of the showroom floor!
