It’s hard to believe the Camaro is turning 50 years old! It really doesn’t look a day over a 29… While the Camaro is hardly over the hill, it’s still a pretty big milestone for one of the best cars ever made. Instead of sending out grim reaper cards and putting up black banners, GM is celebrating the Camaro’s fifty year old nameplate with a pretty slick 50th Anniversary Edition for the 2017 year model.
Without counting the dark 2002-2009 hiatus (it was just resting its eyes, like old folks do), the Camaro nameplate has been around for five decades – it’s hard to believe! When production began on our favorite pony car in 1966, it was meant to put the Mustang in its place, and it’s been doing just that ever since.
Although GM brought it around to beat up on the poor Ford pony car, it’s done so much more than just that over the years. It’s been a car that has inspired generation after generation of gearheads, and has given people a way to own a practical and affordable powerhouse of a car.
Now, as far as this newest Anniversary Edition goes, it’s a stunner! GM is giving it a special Nightfall Gray paint with 50th-Anniversary specific orange striping and orange accented brake calipers. Special badging, satin chrome accents, and a paint matched front splitter make this edition distinguishable from the non-Anniversary 2017s. The 2LT will have a special RS appearance package.
Black leather interior with orange-suede inserts, and orange accent stitching, is added for passengers to enjoy. There’s also special touches on the instrument panel, setbacks, steering wheel, and special illuminated sill plates. This special car will roll out on specific 50th Anniversary 20″ wheels and center caps to dealers near you some time this summer. No pricing has been announced by GM as of yet.
