We’ve been following this one from the beginning; the team at Hemmings rebuild a 1987 Buick Grand National for rapper Killer Mike. Wanting to roll up in some old school style, Mike chose his long-shelved ‘National for the occasion. As much as we love the Turbo V6 that’s under the hood, Hemmings and Mike decided to bring the car into more modern times, mechanically, with an LT4 crate engine. Check out the process in the above!

Hemmings and the crew at Suppy’s shop in Southern California are excited to announce that the second episode of “Killer Mike’s Grind National” that went live on Hemmings’ YouTube channel on Thursday, February 22nd at 11 a.m. PT/ 2 p.m. EST.
This episode takes viewers deep into the preparation of Killer Mike’s Grand National for the 2024 Grammy Awards, showcasing the team’s rigorous efforts to replace the car’s original engine with a 640-horsepower supercharged LT4 crate engine after a terminal rod knock was discovered.
The episode details the complex process of disassembling the car’s rear end, exhaust, transmission, and suspension, leading up to the arduous task of removing the engine. The team then embarks on 3D scanning the engine bay for the fabrication of new parts, followed by a meticulous engine bay repaint and degrease, highlighting the dedication and technical prowess required for such an ambitious overhaul.
