VIDEO: Kelly Bise Runs 187 MPH in the Georgia Half-Mile

For those of you who pay attention to standing-mile racing, know the name Kelly Bise. Kelly’s most known for his impressive car collection, his outspoken demeanor, and his fierce determination to win. Oh, and he’s also known for his famously departed 2000 Camaro SS, a 2,800 rwhp missile that was lost to the Texas Mile in March of 2013 when his driver/tuner/car builder, Joe Huneycutt, lost control and flipped the F-body end over end numerous times. Thankfully, Joe made it out OK, as did the car’s drivetrain, but the the shell was pretty much toast.

Fast forward a year later, and Kelly not only has not one replacement, but two. The first, is a 2009 Corvette Z06 (aiming for 3,000 rwhp upon completion) that’s currently being built at KP Racing to directly replace his Camaro to compete at standing-mile events. He also has another Corvette, a 2012 Grand Sport, that’s “only” packing 1,500 rwhp when combining the twin-turbo kit with nitrous. It was originally intended to be a stock daily-driver.

While covering the wannaGOFAST Georgia 1/2-mile event at Heaven’s Landing in Georgia a few weeks back, Gearhead Flicks put together this video of Kelly and his car, that includes some one-on-one time with Kelly talking about how the car was performing.

‘Hang the Hell on, baby, ‘cuz the bottles are flyin’!’

As it turns out the 187 mph speed he clocked was just the tip of the iceberg. With heavy fog in the atmosphere, dew collected on the track causing many of the higher-horsepower cars like Kelly’s to get a bit squirrelly on the strip. With the car being fresh out of KP Racing’s shop, Kelly didn’t want to risk stuffing his car in the trees.

You can get all of the details in the video hosted above, and let Mr. Bise put it to you in his own words.
