In a timeless face-off comparison, the Corvette and Porsche 911 butt heads once again to see which one is the ultimate sports car. It’s a tradition that dates back to the early 1960s, and not much has changed. Well, that’s not entirely true — a TON has changed since the early ’60s — but the rivalry between the 911 and the Corvette isn’t something that has.
Over the course of time, both cars have become faster, more powerful and far more refined form their 1960s roots. Today’s 911 GT3 and Corvette ZR1 currently offer the ultimate in performance from their respective marques, and have put both sports cars squarely into the exotic car category.
Recently, our colleagues at Edmunds have pitted both cars against each other, on an open track, for a side-by-side comparison. In a sense, the two cars couldn’t be more different; a naturally-aspirated 6-cylinder against a supercharged V8. A front-engined, rear wheel drive car against one that has its engine sitting over the rear wheels.
In fact, even our two hosts point out that it’s a comparison between European tech and sophistication, against American strength and brute force.
However, there’s much more under the skin under both vehicles, so we’ll let our friends at Edmunds take it away in the clip above!
