The Geneva International Motor Show draws out some serious power. Every year, top performing models are unveiled by automakers. This year, the car to watch (especially for GM fans) will be the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport.
Even though we’re a little bit in love with the C7Z, we’re excited about the addition of the naturally-aspirated Grand Sport. This model utilizes the base Stingray’s LT1, and focuses on race ready characteristics in other areas than power (although the LT1 makes plenty of HP). Backing the naturally aspirated 460 horsepower LT1 can be either the 7-speed manual, or 8-speed automatic transmission.
The main focus of the Grand Sport is the lightweight architecture and track-honed aerodynamics. GM is also throwing up a set of super sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport summer tires, available as 285/30ZR19s up front, and 335/25ZR20s at the rear. Massive Brembo brakes help to quickly reduce speed, and new stabilizer bars and springs keep it hunkered to the road. It still uses a lot of the standard goodies like the electronic limited slip, magnetic ride control, etc.
GM is giving it Grand Sport specific fender inserts, a Z06 style grille, and wider rear fenders. If you want to really ‘top it all off’, an available Z07 package brings the addition of carbon ceramic brakes, and Pilot Sport 2 Cup tires.
Pull it all together, and you’ve got a Corvette capable of 1.05 Gs in cornering capabilities, and up to 1.2 Gs with the Z07 package.
Look out for the official reveal of the 2017 Corvette Grand Sport at the Geneva show that starts this week. It is set to be available for sale this summer as a coupe or convertible. A Collector Edition wearing Watkins Glen Gray paint with Tension Blue hash marks, satin black stripes, black wheels, and a full leather and suede blue interior is slated to reach the market later in the year.
