Turbo Buick owners know how finicky the stock electrical components, including many of the sensors, can be in their beloved LC2-equipped Regals. The OEM 2-BAR MAP sensor is no exception. While being an adequate piece for a stock application or for those below 20-psi., it’s capabilities are somewhat diminished once that boost level surpasses the 20-psi. level.
GM actually resolved this in the ’89 Turbo Trans Am, with a 3-BAR MAP sensor that allows for higher boost levels, and ultimately, improved reliability and performance with the boosted Buick mill.
Understanding the demand for such a component, Kirban Performance Products announces their new reproduction 3-BAR MAP sensor for LC2-equipped ’86-’87 Buick T-Type, Turbo-T, Grand National and GNX. This is also the perfect replacement piece for your ’89 Turbo Trans Am.
Official Release:
1986-1987 Buick Turbo Regal Reproduction 3-BAR MAP SENSOR
The original map sensor is only a 2-bar piece, which will not allow the boost reading to go above 20 psi. The 3-BAR map sensor was a factory item found in the 1989 Turbo Trans Am. This 3-BAR map sensor allows you to read boost values above 20-psi.
Another nice upgrade that allows proper reading of boost values above 20-psi., if your Turbo Regal is modified. It will work with stock boost levels as well.
