PRI 2023: Chevrolet Performance Announces 523hp L8P Crate Engine

While at this year’s PRI Show in Indy, we got a firsthand look at the brand new L8P crate engine from Chevrolet Performance, courtesy of our friends at Scoggin-Dickey Parts Center. What can best be described as a standard L8T crate engine, it makes use of its unique camshaft to increase horsepower from the entry-level 401hp, to a full 523hp!

Some quick math tells you that’s a 122hp increase, that comes with 543 lb-ft. of torque, which is an extra 79-lb ft of torque. As popular as the LS swap is, and has been for the last 20 years, we’re probably going to start seeing more LT swaps in the next few years with additions like the L8P out here.

Chevrolet Performance 19435523 – L8P 6.6L Crate Engine – 523HP

With 523 Horsepower and 543 lb-ft of torque on tap, the L8P crate engine is the largest displacement and most powerful Naturally Aspirated Gen V LT family engine! Chevrolet Performance has optimized this care engine combining the displacement and strength of the L8T crate as a foundation for the power while adding a unique camshaft based on the LT2 found in the C8 Corvette Stingray!

Built with a forged steel crankshaft and other high-strength parts! Additional features such as oil spray cooling for the pistons and a cast iron, long-skirt cylinder block with six-bolt, cross-bolted main caps contribute to the engine’s strength and durability. Comes with production style exhaust manifolds.

The Chevrolet Performance L8P crate engine package comes complete from the throttle body to the oil pan, including the pcv tube, evap tube, oil dipstick, and oil fill tube and cap. It does not include the controller, harness, oxygen sensors, or a front end accessory drive system.

• Engine is shipped with high-pressure direct-injection fuel pump installed.
• Front End Accessory Drive system must be ordered separately and includes hydraulic power steering, with center pulley. Pulley-mounted fan not recommended.
• Use Front End Accessory Drive system P/N 19433745 for applications with air conditioning and Front End Accessory Drive system P/N 19433746 for applications without air conditioning.
• Includes 8-bolt flexplate for automatic transmissions.
• Used with Engine Control Kit 19435524 (must use 6L80-E transmission), not included. • Available in Connect & Cruise (with 6L80-E transmission).
