WATCH: Three Pedals Unleash the Manual Transmission Pedal Conversion for ’78-88 GM G-Body!

This seemed like a long time coming; an aftermarket manual transmission pedal conversion for ’78-88 GM G- (and) A-body, that bolts in like a factory piece, has a factory feel, and is readily available. Throw in the fact that the quality is off of the charts, and you have quite a nice piece. That’s the most basic way to describe the clutch puddle assemblies now being offered by Three Pedals.

Now, we know what you’e thinking; GM made manual transmission-equipped G-bodies and A-bodies, so why not just source one of those?

Sure, we suppose you could, but there’s a couple of things that you have to keep in mind; first, they’re few and far between. Only a tiny percentage of these cars left the factory with a clutch pedal, and most of them have already taken up residency in the wrecking yards and have already been picked apart years ago. So if you think you’ll be able to nab one of these from the yard around the corner, tomorrow, you might as well forget it.

Secondly, the OEM units are now 40 years old. They’ll more than likely need rebuilt, and when they were initially conceived, they weren’t really designed for the proverbial heel and toe. The clutch peal was a bit further to the left than most racers would like,

So What’s It Like to Live With?

Your author has driven a G-body Monte Carlo SS with this clutch pedal assembly installed, and to say that it felt right at home would be an understatement. The pedal spacing is right where it needs to be, the pedal feel is just right, and the design made performance driving a blast. It’s comparable to driving a 5th-generation Camaro.

While at the Three Pedals facility, Josh Korsower walked me through the installation procedure, and illustrated how easy it would be for the average enthusiast to install this into his or her car. With GMEFI’s ’84 Hurst/Olds project intended to be a 6-speed equipped car, don’t be surprised if one of these end up mounted beneath the dash!

We could elaborate further, but we’ll let Josh take it away from here:

Key Features

Race-Ready, Street-Friendly

Our all-new design is based on a CNC milled billet aluminum bracket that weighs over 5 pounds when done.Ā  We assemble each pedal assembly in-house with steel pedal arms and heavy duty Oilite bushings, ready to install in your car.Ā  OEM fifth generation Camaro pedal pads are included, and billet aluminum covers are available separately.Ā Ā We torture tested our design throughout 2017 in our wagon, Shaken & Stirred.

OEM Quality Feel

We designed our pedals to feel like a new sports carā€™s pedals ā€“ with easy pedal pressure and perfect pedal positioning.Ā  Your feet will find the pedals without you looking or thinking, and the clutch is easy to modulate.Ā  If youā€™re heel-and-toe downshifting youā€™ll appreciate our pedal positioning that much more.

Compatibility

Our pedals work with every engine, and with every transmission that works with a hydraulic clutch.Ā  This includes the T56, TR6060, TKO500, TKO600, T5, Muscle Car 5, Richmond, and many many more.Ā  Our pedals use the Tilton 78-Series master cylinder, available in 7 different bore sizes.Ā  We will help get you set up with the perfect size for your application.

Modern Electronics

Your OEM brake pedal light sensor plugs right into our pedal assembly.Ā  If youā€™re running cruise control we separately offer cruise control sensors & brackets with either the style from back in the day or the latest CAN bus style for those who want to interface with LS/LT computers.

Easy Installation

Our pedal assembly is a direct replacement for your stock brake pedal and is a very straight forward installation.Ā  We include a firewall drilling template to make it a stress-free job, and we include a rubber firewall seal to finish off your car like an OEM would do it.Ā  And we will guide you on selecting the right parts to finish your car.

Fitment

Our pedals fit all models within the GM G-Body platform, so letā€™s take a moment to clarify what that means.Ā  GM made it a bit confusing ā€“ from 1978 ā€“ 1981 these cars were designated as ā€œA-Bodiesā€ and from 1982 ā€“ 1988 they were designated as ā€œG-Bodiesā€.Ā  We just call ā€™em G-Bodies for short, but weā€™re referring to the whole range, 1978 ā€“ 1988.
