The 5th-gen Big Red Edition Camaro was made to be bold and paying homage to a legend. When the 5th-gen tribute was made, it had a lot to live up to. To polish off the looks and the reliability, Forgeline GX3R wheels were used. These give the Camaro a real pop, along with the wheel strength to handle high speed stresses.
The Big Red Edition Camaro was built by the Big Red Camaro team and Hillbank Motorsports. It’s a one of a kind build that transformed a 2015 Camaro Z/28 into a tribute to the Pro Touring legend. The original Bed Red was known as the Original Outlaw Racer, and wowed with accomplishments like running 220 mph in the Unlimited Class of the Silver State Challenge road race. BIG RED EDITION CAMARO Z/28 ROLLS ON FORGELINE WHEELS
DAYTON, Ohio – Forgeline Motorsports has contributed one of a kind, custom-made wheels to the Big Red Edition 2015 Camaro Z/28 project car, a fifth-generation tribute to the iconic Pro Touring legend from 1988. The original Big Red became famous for running 220 mph in the Unlimited Class of the Silver State Challenge open road race, and was featured this year in a NBCSN docuseries entitled, “BIG RED: The Original Outlaw Racer.”
Team Big Red Camaro set out to recreate this memorable 5th Gen Big Red to generate funds for Ride 2 Recovery Project Hero Veterans Charity. The Big Red Edition Tribute car goes up on the auction block this April 16th at Mecum Auction in Houston, TX (Lot #S84). All proceeds from the auction sale will be donated to this worthwhile charity, which focuses on recovery and rehabilitation programs for veterans. “We are extremely pleased to have Forgeline participate in this project with us,” said R.J. Gottlieb of Team Big Red. “The wheels could not be a better tribute to the original Big Red and they truly are the finishing touch on this amazing vehicle.”
The Big Red Edition Camaro Z/28 features SLP engine upgrades, including intake, exhaust, and supercharger, UMI rear suspension upgrades, and Forgeline GX3R wheels finished with Race Gold centers and polished outers. All work was performed at Hillbank Motorsports facility in Irvine, Calif. According to David Schardt, president of Forgeline, “This car is a true American original, and since Forgeline is the leader in American-made racing wheels, it is a perfect fit for us. We’re very proud to be part of this project.”
The car was displayed at the 2015 SEMA Show, November 3-6, and will be setting out on a 2016 promotional tour to the west coast that will include Goodguys 16th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals April 1-3 at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, Del Mar, California.
