Chevy Gives 2019 Silverado HD Its Own Flowtie

When GM unveiled the all-new 2019 Chevy Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD pickup trucks at the Work Truck Show hi Indianapolis last month, a lot of us missed a key feature borrowed from the Camaro. The much discussed flowtie technology that first showed up on the Z/28 is going to make an appearance on the HD line of Silverados.

The flowtie, now also a standard feature on the 2018 Camaro ZL1, is a wind-tunnel tested badge that promotes better air flow to the radiator. It only makes sense to see this feature show up on the hardest working trucks in the lineup, and is a stylish way to provide maximum airflow needed for the heavy-duty Silverados.

“There is innovation in the design details and a great example is our Camaro Z/28-inspired Chevrolet flowtie,” said Design Manager Kevin O’Donnell. “Our engineers designed it to help win races by using airflow to lower coolant and oil temperatures on the race track.”

Other highlights from the new HD Silverado line include a more muscular looking body with a broader bumper, strong center bar, and redesigned fenders. The hood maintains a downward range angle so drivers can have a better view ahead of them. Speaking of the hood, it’s also a lightweight fiberglass design that has integrated handgrips to help when it needs servicing. Inside the cab are inlaid doors and triple seals to make for a quieter than ever ride.

The new Silverado is extremely consumer focused, and Chevy wants to bring the competition to its knees with the new line. They’re even getting their GMC lines in on the action with a new luxury off-road package and introducing a carbon fiber bed along with the 2019 Sierra Denali. So far, the truck crowd seems to have some mixed feelings about the appearance of the non-HD Silverados, but are responding with great enthusiasm to the rest of the changes to the GM truck family; we expect to see high sales numbers from the pickups once they start to reach dealerships.
